Not Standard

A Love Letter to the LGBTQIA+ Community

From a nearly sold-out album launch performance in New York City last April, Matthew Davies brings the love back to his home state of Utah with his solo show, Not Standard! Matthew Davies, a born-and-raised Utahn turned NYC artist, returns with a heartwarming evening of entertainment. Not Standard is a whimsical and thought- provoking show that leaves the audience with laughs, tears, and tunes they’ll be humming for weeks to come. This concert is for anyone who needs extra love and encouragement to step into their light. In April Matthew released a debut solo jazz- fusion album to create representation and inclusivity for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Salt Lake City, November 2023 — Matthew Davies announces Not Standard. This project discusses the experience of being different from the world around you. Original covers from a diverse group of artists such as Ariana Grande, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Sara Bareilles, and Stephen Sondheim with a jazz-fusion twist! A live concert will be held on December 29th at 7:30 PM at CenterPoint Legacy Theatre in Centerville, Utah. Recent years have patterned a shift towards more love and acceptance in media. TV shows like Heartstopper and Schitt's Creek, alongside musicals such as The Prom, have introduced valuable perspectives to the LGBTQ+ and allies alike. This representation inspired Matthew and the team to share their own unique experiences.

Matthew Davies (he/they) has been seen across the world performing in China, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the United States performing with multiple Broadway national tours (Finding Neverland, R&H Cinderella.) Matthew has also been seen at esteemed regional theaters including The New York City Lincoln Center Opera, Arena Stage, The MUNY, and Music Theatre Wichita.

In talking about the purpose of this project, Matthew Davies states, “In each of our lives, we strive for community, happiness, and belonging. There is a deep healing that comes with art. As we share our authentic selves, we empower others to share their own stories. That is why I created this album and show.”
