What Is Dyslexia, Who Has It & How Can I Help?

If your child struggles with reading and spelling, we may have some answers for you.

Human brains are naturally wired to speak; they are not naturally wired to read and write (Moats, L, & Tolman, C 2009).  Because of this, students need to be taught these skills.  For most students, learning to read and write happens very naturally in the school setting. However, for many students, this is not the case. Despite the very best efforts of teachers and parents, some students continue to struggle in school. The reason may be that they have dyslexia. In fact, 15–20% of the population as a whole—have some of the symptoms of dyslexia, including slow or inaccurate reading, poor spelling, poor writing, or mixing up similar words (dyslexiaida.org). Please join us for a night filled with information on how to help your child and find out more about the Utah Dyslexia Handbook, which was recently released by the Utah State Board of Education.
