The Cottonwood Heights Arts Council is launching swiftly into the new year with events throughout February already planned. Three evenings will feature a different perspective on holiday celebrations and artistry – from a jazz performance, to an art night, to a holiday celebration.
The Jazz Ambassadors of the United States Army Field Band will perform a mix of classic jazz, big band hits and popular tunes on Thursday, March 19 at Butler Middle School (7530 S. 2700 East). The premier jazz ensemble of the U.S. Army are known for their musicianship and high-energy shows.

“Whether you're a lifelong jazz fan or new to the genre, this performance promises an exciting evening filled with powerful music, inspiring moments and unforgettable memories,” wrote Arts Councilmember Laura Garcia.
Lunar New Year will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 7 beginning at 10 a.m. at Cottonwood Heights City Hall (2277 Bengal Blvd.). Collaborating with the Asian Arts and Culture Association, the Lunar New Year Celebration will feature traditional Chinese dancing and music, a Tai Chi demonstration and other cultural performances. Attendees will be able to explore their way through artistic expressions of Asian heritage in a specially curated art exhibit. Crafts will also be available for children to create.
“Lunar New Year is a holiday rich in history, symbolism and community spirit across many Asian cultures,” wrote Arts Councilmember Susie Shi.
Marking the first new moon of the lunar calendar, celebrations traditionally focus on renewal, happiness, luck, family reunions and hopes for prosperity. Lunar New Year has been celebrated throughout history in China, Vietnam, Korea and other land areas of Asia.

A Cozy Paint Night will be held on Friday, Feb. 20 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at City Hall. Attendees will have the opportunity to paint a “Cozy Cabin” winter scene as they follow step-by-step instructions from Whitney Horrocks, an artist and owner of Smartest Artist.
This event was created with beginning and casual painters in mind. With a $20 registration, all supplies and refreshments will be provided to the community’s inspired artists (over 16 years of age).
“Whether you’re looking for a relaxing night out, a chance to try something new, or an opportunity to connect with others in the community, this class offers a welcoming, no-pressure environment for all skill levels,” wrote Arts Councilmember Cheryl Glenn.
Registration for Cozy Paint Night opens Jan. 12. Sign up through the website below.
