It was a record breaking winter. Now it's a record breaking spring. Three resorts are staying open into May. Ski and ride for the fun and for the bragging rights. The winter's snowfall dumped more than 70 feet of snow, and the slopes are still deep with snow.

At Brighton, the Milly part of the mountain is open with groomed runs and a terrain park plus food, outdoor dining, and a slopeside shop stocked with T-shirts and sunscreen for those sunny days. Milly is scheduled to be open daily through May 29.

Snowbird is traditionally always open well into spring, and this year is no exception. It will be open daily through May 14, and after that the slopes will be open Fridays through Sundays through Memorial Day. Then it will decide whether to stay open into June. Between now and May 14, Snowbird offers a new twist to the skiing. In collaboration with Woodward, it offers a radical terrain park where skiers and riders can show off their style. More bragging rights.

At Solitude, where the snowfall also broke all records, several lifts and many trails will be open Fridays through Sundays through May 21. As a bonus, parking is free.

Tips: The resorts' spring operating hours are different than the winter hours. Also. spring weather and road conditions can change quickly. so also check conditions before you go. Then during the day, check for road updates as mud slides can happen unexpectedly and temporarily close the road.
