There is nothing like Powder Mountain. It's humongous -- 8,464 acres of skiing to be exact. Powder Mountain has always been about the skiing. It's so vast you can still make your own tracks days after a storm. That alone is an old school concept.

Among its nine contemporary lifts there's an old school poma to get you up over a knoll. Many skiers have never even seen -- or ridden -- a poma lift. It's the way skiing used to be. Only skiers who are over 50 will know what a poma is.

But it's not all retro. Powder Mountain installed two new state-of-the-art new quad chairs in the last few years and began to develop a community that's off the beaten track.

Powder Mountain's owners say they want to keep the throw-back feel to the resort. When some resorts are going for the glitz look, Power Mountain wants to be down home.

At lunch time, skiers get to know each other as they share long tables for family-style dining. And Fleetwood Mac songs were playing the day I was there.

A Powder Mountain staff member was using colored chalk to post the play list of upcoming bands on an old school blackboard.

And for the closing weekend in mid April, there's a Prom complete with a king and queen. There are prizes for the best dressed, most retro, best table dancer, best limbo, and more. So dig out that old prom dress and have a fun retro time.
