Now you can outfit a whole family on a budget. Utah Ski Gear carries new and used gear and can outfit you – and your kids -- in what's right at a modest price.

This shop is different in important ways. Used gear has been inspected and is clean. Skis are precisely tuned and waxed before they're put on display. The boot fitters are experienced and help you understand how a boot should fit your foot.

And very important, if you aren't satisfied with the gear you choose, you can return it and get store credit.

Also very important, Travis owns all of the equipment he sells – which makes it completely different then a consignment store.

"We want people to try it and be happy," said owner Travis Moise, who knows the snowsport industry well. He's been a certified alpine and telemark ski instructor who taught at Brighton full time for 10 years before opening his Utah Ski Gear company. He understands what skiers – and riders – expect in performance and he provides it at modest cost.

"One thing that really put us on the radar is our $99 ski package of skis and boots," he said. You can buy the gear for what it would cost to rent it – and then you don't have to waste time returning it. It's yours to keep.

He also stocks brand new Elan, Fischer and Nordica skis in various models whether you prefer groomed trails or crave the powder.

Want a snowboard, he has a big selection. Want telemark skis, he has them. Want deep powder skis, he has them too. And there's a big selection of the helmets, boot heaters, orthotics, wax scrapers, sun screen and all the other goodies.

"I'm always thinking, 'how can we serve Utah families better?'"

Utah Ski Gear really caters to families. They have a bin of slightly used children's gloves for a few dollars a pair. Some families come in and swoop up a load of the gloves because their kids lose gloves easily so they keep some extra pairs as back-ups.

Utah Ski Gear is located at 600 East 9400 South in a rustic log ski chalet-type building with ample parking around the back.
