Putting skis or a board on for the first time can be intimidating or downright scary. And you might ask yourself why people want to wear strange equipment and go out into the snow to play. For many, snow is an unpleasant substance. But to skiers and riders, snow is all they dream of.

Why not learn to ski or ride for the first time -- or learn to improve your skills and confidence on the slopes. Courses have been going on all winter at the resorts, but now we're getting down to the final sessions. Get in on the learning and the fun.

All-women's classes -- taught by women -- are very popular. "Women want to learn to caress the mountain," said Kathy Miner, the Snowsport School registrar at Brighton, adding that men only want to conquer it. Women instructors understand how women learn and that their goals are different from those of men.
